Fern Compton Calm, level headed -not much seems like it would shake her Compassionate and caring. ~Rebecca Wilson, RN, DONA(Doula in training)
A little piece about me. I was married, at 17, to a wonderful man serving in our United States Air Force. 3 months after we were married, we conceived our first baby girl. Being young, I hadn't realized the most amazing piece of my life was growing inside of me. I have since seen how incredibly blessed I was to be given this precious little girl.
Children are gifts and blessings from God. I am now the mother of 9 beautiful children, the oldest being 19 and youngest almost two years. I am also a cherished wife, of 20 years, to a career Air Force man. We have birthed our children 100% naturally using The Bradley Method® of Natural Childbirth. Though this is my way, I acknowledge it is not the only way. My goal is a comfortable relaxed mother, a supported partner, and a healthy baby(s).
Since I was a young mother, teen moms have always been close to my heart. Because of this I offer my services to teens and Care Net referred clients free of charge. Being raised by a single mom, having raised 6 of my children, while my husband was serving a year in Korea, by myself, one being born while he was away, and helping support my sister, also a single mom, I understand the intricate emotional and physical demands on pregnancy, birth, and postnatal needs.
I am also a part of supporting our troops and their families with Operation Special Delivery. It's a program where Doulas offer their services free of charge and reimbursement to pregnant women whose husbands or partners have been severely injured or who have lost their lives due to the current war on terror, or who will be deployed at the time that they are due to give birth.
After having my daughter I knew I wanted to be a labor support, birth Doula, as well as a Bradley instructor. I feel every woman deserves to have her best birth experience, possible.
I've birthed in pro-medication infirmaries, one of the top medical hospitals (Stanford University), as well as a base hospital with a midwife. I have learned that I was in charge of my birth experience and can help you advocate yours.
When I am not studying, I can be found in my floral or fruit and veggie gardens. I enjoy homeschooling my beautiful family as well as assisting in their AWANA class room, and supporting them in their own community service through Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and other church activities. I have been a 5th and 3rd grade Sunday School teacher, volunteered in the nursery for almost 10 years, and currently assist in a high school Sunday School class alongside my husband. I have also supported mothers through a MOMS mentorship program to help them feel encouraged and accepted in their new position in life. I also enjoy training my white Boxer in Obedience work. People often say how patient, calm, and well put together I am, as well as, a good cook and baker.
